The leaning tower of Pisa, the walled city of Lucca with its Anfiteatro, the Palio of Siena, the ponte vecchio, Uffizi and Duomo in Florence, the towers of San Gimignano, miles of uninterupted Vineyards and silvery olive groves: Tuscany has it all and more. Our particular favourites are Murlo for its Etruscan heritage and cheap museum, the necropolis of Pitigliano which just appears out of nowhere as you arrive though winding lanes, Poppi for the castle and discount designer shopping that remains a secret and Vicopisano because it has the best ice cream in the region.
The demand for Tuscany Holidays is always strong, but once you are "out there" it is hard to believe it. The roads are always empty and your villa will be more than a home and more than just a holiday. Loved by celebrities such as Naomi Campbell, Tom Cruise, Donatella Versace, Paul Smith, Sting, P Diddy and seen in such films as the English Patient, Stealing Beauty, Under a Tuscan Sun, Much Ado About Nothing, A Year in Tuscany and The Shadow Dancer.
We have picked out a selection of our favourite hotels in Tuscany for you to have a look through, including 4 star beach hotel in Viareggio. For even more choice please use our search function.
Things to do in Tuscany
- Visit Florence: outside of the summer months Florence is the best place to visit and can be something of a culture shock as there is so much to do. Don’t miss the Duomo, Uffizi and Boboli gardens. At the end of the day go to Piazza Michelangelo and watch the sun set over the city.
- Wine tasting: With Chianti, Brunello, Vino nobile Montepulciano, Vin Santo, Vernaccia and many others if you don’t take time out to visit a vineyard and do a little tasting and perhaps a little buying then you’ll miss one of the main reasons for Tuscany’s fame.
- Shopping: Italy is known worldwide for fashion and while Milan may be its spiritual home, Tuscany is where much of the finished item is made.
- Dining out: The worlds most popular cuisine is Italian. Its rich flavours, simple combinations of fresh ingredients and traditional method of cooking mean that every meal is an exploration of culture. Tuscany in particular loves game. Wild boar features heavily in season and the famous Fiorentina steak is ordered by weight – how much can you eat?
- Relax: So many people come to Tuscany to sight see that they forget that this is a holiday after all and the magic that is worked on you by the tranquillity, the fresh clean air, the captivating views and the simplicity of tuscan living is what it is all about. Don’t forget to relax!
