Hotels in Milan,Italy

Situated in the Italian region Lombardy, Milan is one of the richest towns in northern Italy and is probably best known for being the Italian fashion capital. The first original Prada store was founded here in 1913 in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, a covered arcade filled with high end names and small boutique cafes.

Milan offers shoppers the chance to enjoy a beautiful city with one of the largest historical centres in Italy. With a population close to 8 million people it made its money through the centuries by financing kings and emperors.

The Duomo di Milano is the second largest cathedral in Italy. 3,500 statues decorate the exterior of this vast cathedral. If you are lucky enough to visit on a clear day, the view from the roof top is breathtaking. You can see the Alps which are over 60 miles away.

If you plan a visit to see Leonardo Da Vinci’s Last Supper then you will need to book at least 4 weeks in advance. This ancient painting can be found in the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie where it is in a state of permanent restoration.

Things to do in Milan

  1. Go shopping! The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele is the worlds first shopping mall and dates back to the mid 19th century, it contains a large number of big named boutiques and cafes. From here head down the Via Monte Napoleone and do a little window shopping. Take your time as many shops often have similar items and you can save money by being patient. Haggling is usually frowned upon so if you want a bargain, travel in January during the sales.
  2. Visit La Scala theatre. All the greats have sung here from Pavarotti to Dominguez. Renovated in 2006, box seats (the best) cost about €100 but are well worth it.
  3. Milan has two teams AC Milan and Internazionale and the fans are passionate. If you can secure a ticket at the San Siro stadium then this is a truly unforgettable experience.
  4. Book in advance to see Leonardo Da Vinci’s Last Supper at the Santa Maria delle Grazie church.
  5. The Giardini Pubblici (public gardens) in the Corso Venezia / Via Manin area might be far smaller than the more famous Parco Sempione, but make a fantastic place to relax and break from a hard days sightseeing.
